dr Alison Hill
Alison Hill is an Associate Professor teaching biochemistry and chemistry at the University of Exeter. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and the recipient of the RSC Excellence in Higher Education Prize 2022, and two LearnSci teaching innovation awards (2022, 2023). Alison has developed bespoke resources embedded into the curriculum to improve confidence and competence in mathematics skills/data processing. She has pioneered the use of personalised datasets for online assessments. This work has been extended to create a Murder Mystery gamification session to consolidate learning for a second year biochemistry Analytical Techniques course.
Dr Tamar Traube is the Vice Head of the Chemistry Department at Bar-Ilan University, Israel. She earned her B.Sc. In Medicinal Chemistry and her Ph.D. in the field of Computational Chemistry. Since 2013, she has been teaching undergraduate Organic Chemistry. Tamar’s current research focuses on the development and integration of novel approaches to teaching Organic Chemistry while considering visual literacy skills to enhance conceptual understanding and the gaining of spatial abilities. She also teaches General Chemistry laboratory courses. Tamar leads professional development courses for chemistry teachers, advancing the integration of experiments and demonstrations in high school chemistry classrooms. As a member of the Employment Advancement Faculty Team, Tamar developed the course "Innovation in the Chemical Industry," which translates university knowledge and research skills to developing products and technologies in the chemical industry, providing exposure to a variety of future employment opportunities.
Fun Man Fung is a chemistry professor at the University College Dublin, Ireland. Fun Man earned his PhD from the National University of Singapore and is the lead editor of two books. The first, titled "10 Things You Must Know About the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO)," published by World Scientific, serves as a comprehensive guide to this competition. The second, "Technology-Enabled Blended Learning Experiences for Chemistry Education and Outreach," published by Elsevier, serves as a valuable resource for educators and researchers seeking to incorporate technology into chemistry education and its impact on fostering engaging learning experiences. He is a member of the Global Young Academy, hosted at the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in Halle (Saale) and a 2024-2025 Fulbright Scholar at Stanford University. He serves as an Associate Editor of the Chemistry Teacher International (CTI), a journal by the Division of Chemistry Education of EuChemS and the Committee on Chemistry Education of IUPAC.
Andrzej Danel is an Associate Professor teaching chemistry at the Kraków University of Technology, Poland. He earned his PhD from the Jagiellonian University (1996) and completed his habilitation at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology (2011). Andrzej has conducted postdoctoral research at Edinburgh Napier University and the Institute of Organic Chemistry at Karl-Franzens University in Graz, Austria. His research interests include organic synthesis, fluorescent organic sensors, and food chemistry, resulting in around 120 publications and several domestic and international patents. He actively collaborates with international researchers, including partnerships with Academia Sinica (Taiwan), the Institute of Industrial Chemistry (Tokyo), and Humboldt University (Berlin). Andrzej is deeply engaged in chemistry education and outreach, co-authoring textbooks and delivering interactive lectures for school students, youth, and seniors. He also promotes science communication via his popular TikTok channel, showcasing chemistry lectures and experiments.
Mauro Mocerino has been teaching chemistry at Curtin University for over three decades. Throughout this time, he has been dedicated to understanding how students learn chemistry and identifying ways to enhance their learning experiences. This interest has evolved into a key focus of his research. He is also passionate about improving learning in laboratory classes and played a leading role in developing a professional development program for laboratory instructors. More recently, his educational research has explored the potential of immersive virtual reality to teach fundamental chemistry concepts. In addition to his work in education, Mauro’s chemistry research investigates the design and synthesis of molecules for specific intermolecular interactions, including drug–protein interactions, host–guest chemistry, crystal growth modification, and corrosion inhibition. His contributions to learning and teaching have earned him numerous awards, including the RACI Fensham Medal in 2018.
Prof Dr Cari E. Sänger - van de Griend is owner and principal scientific consultant at Kantisto in the Netherlands and in her spare time she is Associate Professor at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy at Uppsala University in Sweden. In her daily work, Cari supports industry and institutes in the field of pharmaceutical analytical chemistry, Analytical Quality by Design and capillary electrophoresis.
